Mission of Hope began when Sharon Jonson went to Haiti in 1972 to direct a choir traveling around the country. As she saw the faces in the crowds, she fell in love with the people of Haiti. She returned each year with her husband, Bob Johnson, and over time they felt led to buy land just north of Port au Prince.
In 1997, Brad Johnson, Bob and Sharon’s son, and his wife Vanessa went to Haiti to serve. On that trip they saw an 18-month-old child die in his father’s arms due to starvation. That moment changed them, and they decided to move to Haiti full time and to officially found Mission of Hope on their parent’s land in 1998. Today, this comprehensive ministry houses an onsite orphanage, a medial facility, a school, and a church. Through partnerships the Mission also serves outside of its property by helping ministries throughout the country.
Blue Ridge began partnering with Mission of Hope after our student ministries went on a discovery trip. Today, we send multiple groups each year, including adults, students, and medical teams. Through these trips, Blue Ridge is able to move participants closer to God while helping to bring life transformation to the people of Haiti through various work projects, medical clinics, and home visits.
