Ryan and Shenandoah French came into their marriage facing some financial challenges.

"When I was old enough to make my own way, I wanted to get everything I ever wanted,” said Shenandoah, who felt she had always been told “no” growing up. "The money came in and went out just as quickly."

After a job loss, the Frenches found themselves thousands of dollars in debt.

"We both brought in financial baggage to our marriage,” Ryan said.

"We were a slave to debt…and we didn't want to live that way anymore,” he said. “...so we gave it all to God,” Shenandoah finished.

They began to make big changes, which were difficult at times. But all along the way, God blessed their efforts, sending money just when they needed it and in 2013 they paid off all their debt except their mortgage.

"It was so freeing in July of 2013 to not be a slave to debt anymore. That's what it means to me to give it to God,” Ryan said.
